Banana “Netram Palam” (නේත්‍රම්පලම්)

The rarest species of banana in Sri Lanka is called "Netram Palam." Individual bananas are offered for sale. According to legend, the Netram Palam has healing qualities.

In order for the banana to fully develop its aroma, the fruit truly has to have black spots and be very readily separated from the stem. The almost orange-colored flesh has a mildly sweet flavor and a strong aftertaste of wild banana scents, which are typically muted.
